Leming Zhou, PI and Ph.D. in Physics & D.Sc. in Computer Science, has extensive teaching experience. He has taught courses such as college physics for engineering students, C/C++/Java programming, data structure, algorithms in computational biology, bioinformatics, and computational genomics. His research fields are mathematical biomedical modeling, open-source software development, and comparative genomics. He is leading the development of the computational-thinking centered courses/modules and oversee the other proposed activities.

Bambang Parmanto, Co-PI and Ph.D. in Information Science, is a leading researcher on web accessibility, data mining, telemedicine, and the personal health record. He has taught courses such as object-oriented and web programming, information technology in healthcare, database systems in healthcare, health information security, and data mining in healthcare. He has extensive experience in incorporating computational information into healthcare courses. In this project, he develops the database and data mining courses/modules for the undergraduate students and assist Dr. Abdelhak on curriculum revision.

Mervat Abdelhak, Co-PI and Ph.D. in Information Science, is the chair of the Department of Health Information Management at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Abdelhak has served as president of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and is an AHIMA Fellow. Dr. Abdelhak has served as a consultant internationally in the areas of education and the practice of health information management and has extensive experience in management and education. Her responsibilities in this project include coordinating the project meetings and overseeing the progress of the project. She arranges meetings for undergraduate curriculum changes and communicate with chairs and deans in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and other health science schools at the University of Pittsburgh.

James Joshi, Co-PI and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, is an associate professor in the School of Information Science at University of Pittsburgh. His expertise is in the area of information security. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER award and NSF Federal Cyber Service grant for developing a curriculum in security assured information systems. He has a strong record both in research and education. He is developing the information security and privacy course/modules specifically for health science students.

Qi Mi, Co-PI and Ph.D. in Mathematics, is an assistant professor in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He has extensive experience in computational biomedical modeling. His research topics include agent-based modeling in inflammation and wound healing, differential equation based modeling in cell migration, vocal fold injury, liver cancer, and pressure ulcers. He is also leading the development of the agent-based modeling framework for biomedical modeling: SPARK. In this project, he is developing the computational biomedical modeling course/module.

Valerie Watzlaf, Ph.D. in Epidemiology, is an associate professor in the Department of Health Information Management. She teaches and performs research in the areas of epidemiology, quality improvement, statistics and health information management. She is a fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and is very active in professional and scientific societies. She assists Dr. Abdelhak on curriculum revision and provide health science knowledge support in the development of health science relevant courses/modules.

Carol Washburn, D.Ed. in Education, is a Senior Instructional Designer in the Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education (CIDDE) at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research has focused on assessment, program evaluation, instructional design and technology, and professional development. She serves as the program evaluator of this project.

Rebecca Harmon is a Ph.D. candidate in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests are academic integrity in higher education, management of critical patient information during and after disaster events, leadership, and privacy. She has worked as student recruitment coordinator for a few years. She is responsible for the student recruitment and high school outreach program.

Sajeesh Kumar, Ph.D. in telemedicine, is an assistant professor in the Department of Health Information Management. His research focuses on design and development of telemedicine technology, healthcare delivery and technology evaluation. In this project, he provides a tutorial on telemedicine to undergraduate students and coordinates the high school outreach program.

Patricia Anania Firouzan is an assistant professor and clinical education coordinator in the Department of Health Information Management. Her research fields are computational applications in health care and classification systems. She has many years experience on arranging clinical internship for undergraduate students. She is the coordinator for the students' internship.
